Pest control for schools and care homes, built around the people we protect.
Children, students and elderly residents are the most vulnerable people we work around, and they deserve the most careful pest control there is. ASC Pest Control protects schools, universities, creches, old-age homes and government buildings with least-toxic methods, holiday scheduling and only legal, registered products, never the dangerous street poisons that have cost lives in this country.
Why It Matters
Institutions concentrate both pest pressure and vulnerable people.
Schools, creches, hostels, university residences, old-age homes and government buildings feed and shelter large numbers of people every day. Tuck shops, kitchens, dining halls, dormitories, waste points and aging infrastructure give rodents, cockroaches, ants, flies and bedbugs abundant food, water and harbourage. The people in these buildings, young children, students living in close quarters and frail elderly residents, are precisely those most harmed by the pathogens pests carry and least able to tolerate careless treatment. Getting pest control right here is a duty of care, a public-health obligation and, in feeding schemes and kitchens, a legal requirement under Regulation R638 of 2018.
Vulnerable people
Young children and elderly residents are more susceptible to disease carried by rodents, cockroaches and flies, and far more sensitive to any chemical used carelessly around them.
Feeding & hygiene
School kitchens, feeding schemes and care-home catering fall under R638. Pests in these areas are both a health hazard and a compliance failure.
Close-quarters living
Dormitories, residences and care wards let bedbugs, cockroaches and rodents spread quickly from one room to many, so early, careful control matters.
Reputation & duty of care
Governing bodies, parents and families expect a safe environment. A visible infestation, or an unsafe treatment, damages trust and standing instantly.
Only Legal, Registered Products
We never use illegal or street pesticides, and neither should any facility with children in it.
This is the single most important thing to understand about institutional pest control in South Africa. Cheap, decanted, unlabelled poisons sold on the street and in informal outlets, often agricultural organophosphates repackaged for indoor use, are unregistered, acutely toxic and unlawful. They have caused the deaths of children who came into contact with them. No school, creche or care home should ever allow these products anywhere near its buildings, and no responsible operator would use them. ASC uses only products registered under Act 36 of 1947, applied by registered pest control operators, with a full chemical register and safety data sheets kept on record for every site.
The safe alternative is not more chemistry, it is better method. Our least-toxic Integrated Pest Management puts exclusion, proofing, monitoring and hygiene first, and reserves any registered product for contained, targeted use well away from the people we protect.

Least-Toxic, Child-Safe Method
Prevention first, chemistry last, and always out of reach.
Chemical stewardship is not a nice-to-have in a building full of children or frail residents, it is the whole point. We design programmes that remove the reasons pests arrive so that chemicals become the exception, not the routine. When a registered product is genuinely needed, it is applied in contained, low-toxicity forms, placed where children, students and residents cannot reach it, and recorded in full. This is how we care for the impact of what we do on people, on the environment and on the reputation of the institution that trusts us.
Exclusion & proofing
Sealing gaps, doors, drains and services so pests are kept out physically, the safest control of all because it uses no chemistry.
Tamper-resistant stations
Rodent monitoring in locked, tamper-resistant stations placed out of children's reach and mapped for the record.
Contained gel & targeted work
Cockroach and ant control by contained gel bait and precise crack-and-crevice treatment, never broadcast spraying in classrooms or wards.
Hygiene & monitoring
Monitoring and practical hygiene guidance for kitchens, tuck shops and waste points that reduces pressure at source.
Scheduling Around Your Calendar
Intensive work in the holidays, quiet monitoring in term time.
The safest treatment is one that happens when the building is empty. We build every institutional programme around your academic and care calendar, so heavier work lands when it causes least risk and least disruption.
Holiday deep treatment
Proofing, drain work, kitchen treatment and any product application concentrated into school holidays and quiet periods, when children and students are away.
Term-time monitoring
Discreet inspection and monitoring during term so problems are caught early without disrupting teaching or exams.
Care-home sensitivity
In old-age homes we schedule around residents' routines and vulnerable areas, with quiet, respectful, low-toxicity servicing.
Rapid, safe response
Where an urgent issue arises during occupancy, we respond with the least-toxic effective option and clear records for the governing body.

Questions
Schools and institutions pest control FAQ
Is your pest control safe for children and elderly residents?
Yes. In schools, creches and old-age homes we work least-toxic and prevention-first, so the front line is exclusion, monitoring and hygiene rather than chemicals. Any product we do use is targeted, low-toxicity, registered under Act 36 of 1947 and applied by registered pest control operators, in contained forms such as gel baits and tamper-resistant stations placed away from children and residents. Treatments are scheduled around occupancy, typically during holidays and after hours, so vulnerable people are never exposed.
Why must institutions never use illegal or street pesticides?
Because illegal, decanted and street pesticides such as the agricultural poisons sold informally are unregistered, unlabelled and acutely toxic, and they have caused child deaths in South Africa. Using them in a school, creche or care home is both dangerous and unlawful. ASC uses only products registered under Act 36 of 1947, applied by registered pest control operators, with a full chemical register and safety data sheets on record. Read more here.
Can you work around school terms and residential care routines?
Yes. We plan around your calendar: intensive treatment and proofing during school holidays and quiet periods, discreet monitoring during term time, and careful scheduling in old-age homes and care facilities so residents are never disrupted. Everything is recorded in My ASC Pest Hub with live trend graphs and one-click audit packs for governing bodies and inspectors.
Do school kitchens and feeding schemes have legal pest requirements?
Yes. Any premises that handles food, including school kitchens and feeding schemes, falls under Regulation R638 of 2018 and must be kept free of pests, with harbourage prevented and only registered pesticides used by registered operators. Our programmes are designed to meet these requirements and keep the evidence audit-ready.
