Free Interactive Tool · ASC-TOOL-01
Will your pest file survive the next audit?
Eighteen questions, five minutes, no sign-up. Score your pest management file against the clauses auditors actually raise findings on — BRCGS Issue 9 clause 4.14, FSSC 22000 with ISO 22002-1:2025, SANS 10049, Regulation R638 and Act 36 of 1947 — and leave with a printable action plan.
Built by the food safety specialists who own ASC Pest Control. Everything runs in your browser: nothing is sent to us, and we never see your answers unless you choose to share them.
Answer honestly — the value is in finding the gaps before an auditor does. Choose Yes only where you could put the evidence in front of an auditor today, Partly where it exists but is incomplete or out of date, and No where it does not exist. Leave a question unanswered if it genuinely does not apply to your site.
Your Gap Report
Your pest file gap report
This is a structured self-check, not an audit. It cannot see your site, read your records or judge their quality. Use it to prioritise, then verify on the floor.
Why we built this
The pest file fails more audits than the pests do.
In the audits our food safety consultancy runs, pest management non-conformances rarely come from an infestation. They come from a file that cannot prove the programme is working: a site map that does not match the floor, a trend analysis nobody has done since the contract started, catches logged as "flies" for three years, corrective actions with no root cause and no close-out.
That is a documentation problem wearing a pest control costume — and it is fixable in weeks, not months, if you know which gaps to attack first. That is all this tool does: it asks the questions an auditor will ask, in the order they will ask them, and tells you where you are thin.
Every gap in your report links to the free template or the guidance article that closes it. You can fix everything here yourself, without ever speaking to us. If you would rather not, that is what we do for a living — book a compliance walk-through and we will do it with you.
Questions about this tool
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free, and do I have to give you my details?
It is free and there is no sign-up. The assessment runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted to ASC and we never see your answers unless you deliberately choose to share your score with us.
Which standards does it cover?
BRCGS Issue 9 clause 4.14, FSSC 22000 with ISO 22002-1:2025, SANS 10049, Regulation R638 and Act 36 of 1947. The same expectations sit behind the pest requirements in SQF, IFS Food, AIB and GLOBALG.A.P., so a strong score travels well. Our standards comparison maps the differences.
Does a green score mean I will pass?
No. This is a self-check, not an audit, and it cannot see your site. Green means the documented elements auditors most often raise findings against appear to be in place. Physical conditions, the quality of the records themselves and site-specific risks still have to be verified on the floor.
Who should complete it?
The person who would hand the pest file to an auditor — usually the food safety or quality manager, the technical manager, or the facility manager who owns the prerequisite programmes.
What if JavaScript is blocked on my machine?
The scoring needs JavaScript. If it is blocked, download the printable BRCGS 4.14 self-assessment or the pest audit checklist instead — same questions, on paper.
